Entel PCS is a Chilean mobile phone operator, Entel Chile Group subsidiary. Currently, is the second largest cellular phone provider in Chile with 6 million subscribers, behind Chile Movistar with 6.2 million customers, which transforms back into the largest operator with annual growth of the country (15%), having risen their numbers nearly 700,000 customers. In Chile mobile telephony penetration has increased to 90%. (October 2007).
Entel PCS born in 1997 the first operator to use GSM technology in Chile, and the first to use it in such band in Latin America. This technology was finally taken by all its competitors in Chile, Movistar (former Telefónica Móvil and ex-BellSouth Chile) and Claro (former Smartcom).
Later in 2002 joined GPRS technology to its network and EDGE technology in 2004. In 2006 launched the first network 3.5 UMTS / HSDPA in Latin America, and so far the only one that provides all third-generation services in Chile, as videocall, mobile-TV, video streaming and data transfer.
The Entel PCS network reaches nearly all urban areas and major highways of Chile; being the only carrier serving in remote locations such as Puerto Williams, Easter Island and Chilean Antarctica.
Entel PCS works with the best quality standards being recognized internationally by providing "better service mobile americas."
It offers service in two ways: Contract (with equipment leases and a monthly service bill; also called Postpaid), and Prepaid.
On May 11, 2008, Entel PCS Entel Chile sealed a strategic agreement with Vodafone, in which Entel PCS enters the world of equipment and international services Vodafone, and Vodafone will be one of the trademarks of Entel for the wireless business. Is not currently foresee a sale of Entel PCS to Vodafone, but does not rule it out in the future. This step will mean to enter Entel PCS network Roaming biggest and most important in the world, with more than 770 million subscribers direct and indirect, in major companies such as: Vodafone, China Mobile and Verizon.
